Batten Awnings

An Outrigger batten awning can be manufactured to almost any shape and size. An Outrigger batten awning is unique in that it is manufactured like a traditional battened sail with the fabric housing full length aluminium battens which can be straight, pitched, or curved. When Outrigger originally developed the batten awning, the concept was considered both new and innovative and a patent application was filed. The design is now protected by Patent No. 696264.

An Outrigger batten awning can be designed either with a frame or without a frame. The frame increases the strength and stability of the awning, but it makes the awning a permanent structure. All batten awnings are custom designed and manufactured like a traditional sail. They are zig zag stitched by a sailmaker and utilise Tenara sewing thread.

Batten awnings tend to be rectangular in shape. Batten sails with their tri-radial end panels can be made to almost any shape. Most batten awnings are manufactured as a rainproof structure from a premium grade pvc coated fabric, however the design works just as well with a pvc mesh shade fabric.
