Sail AwningsAn Outrigger sail awning can be manufactured to almost any shape and size. All sails are custom designed and manufactured in Outrigger's factory with a robotic plotter cutter. An Outrigger sail awning is manufactured like a traditional yacht sail. All outer edges are tabled over to provide triple fabric thickness and then further reinforced with a double thickness fabric strip. All Outrigger awnings are zig zag stitched by a qualified sailmaker. All Outrigger sail awnings are stitched with Tenara sewing thread. Tenara is an expanded ptfe material that is unaffected by UV radiation, salt water, acid rain, cleaning agents, industrial pollutants, and micro-organisms. It is fully supported by a manufacturers warranty for a period of 15 years. An Outrigger sail can be manufactured as a rainproof structure. Rainproof sails are generally made from a premium grade teflon coated pvc fabric such as Ferrari 502 awning pvc or Polymar 8506 pvc. Rainproof fabrics also provide excellent sun protection. An Outrigger sail can also be manufactured from an open weave shade fabric such as Vistaweave or Outlook. These fabrics typically provide 90% shade protection. A premium grade shade fabric often used is Soltis92. This fabric is a coated pvc mesh providing 95% shade protection. Sail tension is provided at each corner by either a stainless steel turnbuckle or a pulley system. The stainless steel turnbuckle provides a permanent means of applying tension to the awning. It is most suited to awnings that will be left up permanently, or ones that will be left up for Summer and taken down for Winter. An awning tensioned with a pulley system can be set up and taken down in a couple of minutes. The pulley system is ideal for awnings that will be set up and taken down more than twice a year. An Outrigger sail awning is an engineered structure. All awnings are designed to withstand winds to 140 km/h and are covered by Outrigger's comprehensive guarantee. |
